Part of the South Florida Metropolititan Area. The name comes from the Spanish phrase "mira al mar" (Spanish phrase, literally 'look at the sea')" There are only two high schools in Miramar: Miramar High School, and Everglades High School, the latter being the newest.
The city was named after a town in Cuba. As of 2006, the population estimated by the U.S. Census Bureau is 106,590.
